I stumbled upon Mario Egypt Stars while looking for something quirky and different to play during my lunch break, and I gotta say - it's one of those games that surprises you by being weirdly charming. You've got Mario dropped right into an Egyptian-themed world, complete with pyramids, sand, and mysterious backgrounds that look like something out of a retro Tomb Raider map. Instead of the usual coin collecting or Goomba stomping, the goal here is to find hidden stars scattered throughout each level. Sounds simple, right? But the twist is that the stars are really well hidden, like behind invisible blocks or awkward jumps that don't feel obvious at all. That's kind of where the challenge lies - it's more about memory and exploration than speed. The game doesn't hold your hand at all, which can be a little frustrating, but also kinda addictive once you get into the rhythm. Now, in terms of gameplay mechanics, it plays almost exactly like a classic Mario game - basic arrow-key movement, jump, no power-ups, and no enemies either (at least in most levels I played). Which honestly was a little disappointing at first. I kept expecting a Koopa to pop out or a fireball to chase me, but nope - just me, Mario, and the stars. That said, the lack of danger does make it more chill and puzzle-y, and I guess that's the point. It's not about fast reflexes, it's about scanning the level and figuring out where the sneaky devs might've hidden the next shiny object. The Egypt theme is cute, but it's mostly just a change of background tiles. Still, it gives the game a slightly fresh coat of paint. I wouldn't call it groundbreaking, but if you like relaxed platformers that lean more into "Where's Waldo?" territory than action, it's actually kind of fun. Overall, Mario Egypt Stars isn't the most exciting Mario fan game out there, but it's got this slow-paced, low-stress vibe that I really didn't mind at all. It's more of a puzzle hunt than a real adventure, but sometimes that's exactly what I'm in the mood for. Just me jumping around a desert trying to outsmart some hidden stars - it's weirdly satisfying. Sure, it could've used a bit more variation or maybe a surprise enemy or two, but it sticks to its simple idea and does it decently well. Not the kind of game you'll remember forever, but definitely one of those "I'll just try one more level" type of time-wasters. And for a free browser game? Not bad at all.
